π’Do you use TripAdvisor?
TripAdvisor has been around for a while now. It’s an online platform where guests can leave their reviews about places they’ve stayed, restaurants they’ve tried and more. It has grown over the years and now also offers price comparison for hotel stays too.

All that said, like any online platform, it helps to know the pitfalls & how to navigate around them.
So here are my top 8 tips to get the most out of your search on TripAdvisor. Scroll on down. π
β Always check how many contributions a Reviewer has made. Why? Because some hotels have paid off guests for reviews & sometimes people just give 1* because they had one bad experience. Look for Reviewers with many contributions & see what they have to say.
βSome reviews are simply daft. Yes, everyone has a right to their own opinion, but be balanced. If you’re staying at a 3* hotel, with a 3* price tag, don’t moan if you don’t get the Ritz service.
βUse the maps feature. It helps you get feel of the location of a hotel & what’s nearby. Really handy to help plan out your trip. If you click on the little “things to do” icons, you’ll be able to see reviews for them too.
βYou can write questions for people who’ve stayed at the hotel. It’s not always a successful venture. But some hotels are very good at responding & some TripAdvisor Reviewers are very helpful souls.
βWatch out for hotels with similar sounding names. There are a lot of them. Sometimes you might think you’ve got a good deal for a 5 * hotel but it’s actually a 2 * dive of a place, you wouldn’t wish on anyone.
βYou can filter reviews by time of the year. If you are travelling off season, it’s a great way of seeing what others have experienced at a similar time of year. Some hotels aren’t geared up for off season as well as high season. There is also a facility to search by “family” but I’ve never found it that useful.

βThe option to search reviews is great. So if you wanted to know more about the Kids Club, search for it in the reviews search bar. That way you don’t have to read a multitude of irrelevant ones.
βFinally, they have a hotel search comparison facility. If you’ve booked your flights, it can be handy to book your hotel through the TripAdvisor search engine too. Or if you’re given options by the travel agent, then it’s a good way to see which hotel you prefer.

Use my TripAdvisor hack to get the best price. Searching with TripAdvisor has often given me a better deal than going direct to booking sites like Expedia, Loveholidays or Hotels.com. In fact, I’ve saved Β£200 by booking through TripAdvisor rather than going directly to some of the major Online Travel Agents.

I’ve also saved by getting smart with booking my own flights too. Read my 5 Secrets to Getting Good Flight deals or why not join our Facebook group, the Family Holidays Club for the latest offers from around the World & help to “DIY” your own holiday.
